Review: My father lent me this book after I told him I knew little about the Mayan culture and would like to know more, besides wondering what this 2012 thing everyone is talking about is (there had to be something more to it than just “OMG the world is going to end!” like everyone seems to think).
I really wanted to like this book. Turns out my father hadn’t read it before he gave it to me, and so he didn’t know how this book was. Truth is, it’s bad. Terrible, in fact. It’s written in the form of a novel (think Dan Brown but much, much worse – yes, it’s that bad). The writing is awful. We have points of view who shift from one person to another in the middle of sentences, cardboard characters, confusing storytelling, the dialogue was as far removed from reality as it could be, and every time a female character showed up the descriptions instantly became sexualized and stereotyped. Worst of all, the explanations about the Mayan culture and the prophecy were really confusing.
I’m still curious to read about the subject matter, but this book was an utter waste of time.
